From the relentless bustle of Djemaa el Fna in Marrakech to the solitude of the Agafay desert, our Moroccan adventure was as much an assault on the senses as a test for the Land Rover Discovery.

COLOUR, CULTURE AND ADVENTURE

Morocco might be tantalisingly close to Europe as it reaches out from the North of Africa towards the Strait of Gibraltar, but nothing could feel less like home than this cacophony of colour and culture.

Winding through the narrow streets and alleyways of the old medina in Marrakech was the first test before we headed out to the vast emptiness of the desert. The rugged terrain and searing heat made the comfort and refinement of The Discovery’s cabin all the more welcome.

Racing the tide over the windswept beach at Essaouira and into the dunes gave us a chance to practice some off-road skills.

Then it was on to the impossibly beautiful but barely made roads into the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Stretched out below us we could see the shimmering sands of the desert, and above us the snow-capped peaks of the mountains.

An exhilarating and exotic adventure in a land of colour and contrasts.
