While respectful of its past, the New Defender is not harnessed by it, ensuring it stays legendarily strong, but relevant to today’s Australian driver.

Moreover, every part of the New Defender’s no-nonsense design, from the monocoque construction to exterior stance, has been created to offer the perfect blend of robustness and composure – for a vehicle tasked with conquering everywhere, from the bush to the city, to the arid Australian Outback.

We handed keys to the New Defender to our three Ambassadors – Elyse Knowles, Sally Fitzgibbons and James Viles, and challenged them to test the capabilities of the vehicle on three adventurous weekend getaways.

IN THE BEGINNING

Since way back, Australia and the Defender have shared an endearing affinity. It began in 1949 with the Defender’s earliest predecessor, known simply as the Land Rover. This workhorse diligently helped construct the ambitious Snowy Hydro Scheme. Not simply a fleet, but an army of 700 of these vehicles were enlisted to literally move mountains. Through blood, sweat and gears, the legend of Defender in Australia was born.
