As the temperature drops you might be tempted to stay indoors where it’s warm. But Land Rover ambassador Elyse Knowles believes winter is a great time to hit the road and explore everything Australia has to offer. Get inspired by Elyse’s top 5 winter getaways and start planning your next adventure.

THREDBO

Thredbo is like a giant warm, winter cuddle (if you take the right gear...layers, socks & beanies!). Get your snuggly gear out and melt into the most beautiful snowy scenery. Crank the car heater during the drive, turn the seat warmers to high, get the old school tunes playing and immerse yourself in the picturesque alpine landscape. It'll blow your mind.

CRESCENT HEAD

If you're a fan of getting amongst the Aussie outdoors, camping with friends and surrendering to all that nature has to offer, you will adore this location. Every day is spent looking out over the point and watching the surf roll in from sunrise to sunset. You can take the car along the beach, admire the crystal clear ocean and appreciate the wildlife that hugs the shoreline. Crescent Head is the type of place where you can completely switch off, unwind and remind yourself how much beauty lies in simplicity.

MORTON ISLAND

Clear, glass-like water, with more shades of beautiful blue than you can count! Catch the ferry across to Morton Island and get ready to be cast into a true Australian paradise. All you need is your car, a swag and some food, and you're in for one of the best camping trips ever! From the stunning lakes, prestige bays, hidden shipwrecks and the most gnarly four wheel tracks, you will not want to leave. The island is a place where you can explore, relax and get lost in our beautiful natural environment.

INLAND ESCAPE: CURRUMBIN VALLEY

Currumbin Valley is such a special place. The rockpools and greenery are mesmerising, you'll want to pinch yourself as you look around feeling like you're in a storybook. Driving through the green rolling hills, stopping to admire the gushing waterways, swimming in fresh water holes and just immersing yourself in the clean, cool air is quite spectacular. In the mornings, you can wake up with a warm cuppa in hand and sit back to listen to the black cockies fly through the valley. Watch the floating clouds hum in the sky and enjoy the fact there is no reception. It's just you and nature. Currumbin Valley is the perfect place to seek solace and to reconnect to our exquisite Australian land.

MURRAY RIVER

We have done countless car trips over the years down to Melbourne. One of my favourite holidays to plan while we're back in our old hood, is to head to the Murray River with friends and family. It's one of those trips I'd do anything to avoid missing! We take the boat, a bunch of friends & of course the dogs! Days are filled with hours and hours of water skiing, wake surfing and wakeboarding. When we finally jump out of the water, we defrost by a snuggly campfire and enjoy warm cups of tea. The Murray is my version of heaven away from home, and I've been going since I was little so it'll forever have a special place in my heart.

When Elyse heads out to explore Australia’s diverse landscape she gets behind the wheel of a new Defender, the strongest and most capable Land Rover ever built. Find the right Land Rover for your next adventure.
