Your surfing journey began on the Gold Coast and led to three World Titles and 22 Championship Tour wins. Looking back, what were the pivotal moments that defined your path from local talent to global surfing icon?
"For me the foundation was really set up at home on the Gold Coast. Being surrounded by my brothers but also some of the best surfers in the world each and every surf, whilst growing up to my lifetime sparring partners in Joel Parkinson and Dean Morrison. It showed me the level I needed to rise to but also the hard work and dedication I needed to implement."
You've taken on roles as an influential mentor and entrepreneur. How do you integrate these responsibilities with your passion for the ocean and exploration?
"Growing up I received so much help and advice from so many people. Having gone through many things in my own life I just try and explain what helped me in real-life situations. Giving back is something I am passionate about and what better way to do this than surfing and enjoying the ocean with people."
How does the Defender align with your lifestyle—whether it's chasing remote surf breaks, moving around with the family or exploring the Australian landscape?
"I seriously have been loving the Defender. The versatility from on road to off road and keeping the family safe whilst comfortable is a game changer. Being able to fit boards, and all the kids’ things whilst being robust inside and out definitely eases the mind. Nothing is too hard in the Defender."
