What is the Defender Trophy?
  • Defender Trophy is a global adventure challenge programme with a purposeful mission at its core.​ EPIC Adventure with Greater Purpose.
     

    ​The programme consists of a series of competitive selection events in countries around the world from October 2025 to June 2026 (refer to the list of participating countries), culminating in an epic global final in October/November 2026. ​
     

    The objective is to build a global community of inspired Defender advocates who love a challenge and who support conservation causes. 

What is the Competition and what is the Reward?
  • The competition comprises a series of team-based challenges. Participants will navigate some of the world’s most brutal and unforgiving terrain, along the way facing engineering, and physical challenges that may seem impossible. It will test wit, willpower and teamwork. Every decision will count.


    To win the Defender Trophy, a team will need to prove the superior collective value of its character, personality, skills, sociability, inventiveness and collaboration.
     

    The reward for the winning team is to take part in the final mission – to unleash their skills to drive impactful conservation efforts.

Is it a race?
  • No, this is a competition but not a race, there may be timed elements within the competition, but these will have strict controls to ensure everyone drives responsibly.

Who can take part?
  • Individuals with an adventurous mindset – people who prefer to ‘do more’ than ‘have more’.

     

    They are not age or gender defined, but are courageous and ambitious, liberated pioneers who have a desire to give back. To make a difference. These are not professional athletes; they are from all walks of life and have an insatiable thirst for adventure. They are fit, positive, collaborative and competitive. Defender Trophy is personal to them – they thrive in being part of its success.

     

    In summary, we are looking for people who reflect true Defender values and are excited by a challenge.

     

    Residents in participating countries can apply as long as they meet the eligibility criteria.

What are the eligibility criteria?
  • Applicants need to be 23 years or over, fit to complete a demanding adventure challenge, must have a driving licence, be able to travel internationally, can swim 50m unassisted and unaided, communicate fluently in English, and acknowledge and accept that they will be living outdoor for several weeks and that they will be filmed and photographed. We will not be accepting employees of JLR or competitor automotive brands. Full eligibility criteria is described in the application form.

Do I need to be an athlete to apply?
  • No. Anyone who meets the eligibility criteria can apply. Participants will need to have a reasonable level of resilience to endure what will be an arduous challenge.

Can people with disabilities/abilities apply to participate?
  • If you fulfil the eligibility criteria you are welcome to apply.

Will this be televised?
  • The competition will create the platform for a series of high-quality programmes to be broadcast on YouTube and other social media channels.

Where will this take place?
  • The first Defender Trophy global final is currently under development and will take place in southern Africa in authentic and challenging surroundings where Defender is already contributing to local causes reflecting our 20-year association with TUSK org.  


    Precise locations will be announced later.

     

When will this take place?
  • The opening and closing dates for applications will vary by country.


    National selection events will follow the application closing date and will be different for each participating country. All global winners will be announced in August 2026. The global final is in October/November 2026.

     

Why are you doing it now?
  • For more than 77 years Defender and its Land Rover heritage models have explored the world’s extremes. This unique legacy inspires a new breed of challenge for a new generation of adventurers and pioneers.

How often will this take place or is this a one-off?
  • We are committed to delivering a successful Defender Trophy Competition in 2025-2026. The ambition of Defender Trophy is to become a repeating programme.

Which countries are taking part?
  • In the first season of the programme, we are welcoming applicants and selecting winners from the residents of Australia, USA, Canada, China, Japan, Taiwan, South Africa, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and other European countries as well as countries in the Asia Pacific and the Gulf Region. For the full list, please refer to ‘participating countries’ section.

I am from a country that is not listed above. Can I take part?
  • Only residents in the participating countries will be eligible to take part.

How many winners will there be from each country?
  • Each country will select one to two winners.  

How many winners will there be at the global final?
  • This is not an individual winner-takes-all competition. There will be a team of winners who will be completing the mission.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

These terms and conditions (“Terms and Conditions”) apply to this Defender Trophy Challenge Competition (the "Competition”). The Competition starts on 23 March 2026 and closes at 11:59pm AEST on 31 April 2026 (“Competition Period”). 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. Information on how to enter this Competition forms part of these Terms and Conditions. By entering the Competition you confirm your acceptance and agree to these Terms and Conditions.

2. The Competition is promoted and managed by Jaguar Land Rover Australia Pty Ltd (the “Promoter”) ABN 86 004 352 238 of Level 1, 189 O’Riordan Street, Mascot NSW 2020 Australia. 

3. These Terms and Conditions apply so far as the law permits so, please read them carefully before entering. Entry and continued participation in the Competition is dependent on entrants following and acting in according with the instructions of the Promoter.

4. These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with New South Wales law. The parties irrevocably agree that the courts of New South Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction to deal with any dispute or claim that arises out of or in connection with these Terms and Conditions and the Competition.

4.1 If this Competition is interfered with in any way or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter, including but not limited to technical difficulties, unauthorised intervention or fraud, the Promoter reserves the right, in its discretion, to disqualify any Entrant or to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel this Competition, as appropriate.

CAN I ENTER THE COMPETITION?

5. The Competition is free to enter (no purchase necessary).

6. The Competition is only open to Australian residents aged 23 years and over who meet the eligibility requirements in clause 8 below at the time of taking up the Competition and during the Competition Period. 

7. Please note before entering:

(a) the Global Final (as further described below) involves extremely physically and mentally demanding challenges; driving the Promoter’s vehicles, in all weather conditions; and other unforeseen challenges that may be out of the Promoter’s control, where there are inherent risks of damage to both entrants and their property. Therefore, should an entrant be successfully selected to participate in the Global Final, they will be required 2 to enter into further waivers and releases (including but not limited to health waivers and image releases); and

(b) the selected entrant/s must be prepared to live in the outdoors for up to 21 (twenty-one) days in close proximity to the other entrants, in potentially harsh climates and rugged environments, as part of the Global Final;

(c) the Global Final may be unsuitable and therefore not recommended for those who suffer from back or neck problems, heart conditions (or any other similar conditions). It may also be unsuitable for those who are pregnant. The Promoter would recommend entrants check, with a doctor or qualified medical professional, whether they are suitably fit, healthy and clear to take part in the Global Final before entering this Competition. The Promoter may require evidence of such health clearance from any entrant; and 

(d) entrants must be prepared for all weather conditions and will be responsible for providing their own appropriate clothing, gear and equipment in anticipation of varying extreme weather scenarios (including but not limited to: waterproof clothing, warm layers, protective and appropriate footwear for hiking and climbing, suncream, etc.). The Promoter will not be responsible for providing this.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

8. To be eligible to enter, each entrant must:

(a) be able to swim a minimum of 50 (fifty) metres unassisted and unaided; 

(b) demonstrate that they can communicate in English, which will be the language of the Competition, to understand detailed instructions and provide input and feedback to other entrants in potentially dangerous situations where accurate, immediate and clear communication is essential; 

(c) possess a healthy level of physical and fitness, as the Competition involves a number of physically and mentally demanding challenges. Entrant’s eyesight must also meet the standard required for driving;

(d) due to the Promoter’s insurance requirements, be 23 years old or over, and possess a full valid driver’s licence in the entrant’s State/Territory of residence with no more than 6 demerit points and no serious convictions in the last 5 years, at the time of entering and during the Competition Period. Entrants will be asked to present their drivers’ licence to the Promoter so should ensure that they bring it with them to any and all events related to the Competition; 

(e) pass the drivers’ licence verification check that will be sent to entrants via web link; 

(f) be fit to travel overseas, should they be determined a Finalist (as defined below);

(g) possess a valid international passport, as the Global Final will take place in an international location that will be revealed by the Promoter during the Competition 3 Period. Successful entrants will be responsible for obtaining their own visas and vaccinations (including any other documentation required for travel to the destination); and

(h) have no criminal record.

9. The following entrants will not be eligible to enter the Competition:

(a) all those who do not meet the eligibility criteria set out in clause 8 above;

(b) any employee (hourly or salaried), independent contractor or apprentice working for the Promoter and/or its affiliates (including but not limited to Jaguar Land Rover Limited) at the time of taking up the Competition and during the Competition Period; and/or

(c) any third party, employee (hourly or salaried), independent contractor, apprentice or volunteer working for or associated with any company principally involved in the manufacturing, sale or distribution of automotive vehicles.

10. In entering the Competition, entrants confirm that they are eligible to do so and eligible to claim any prize they may win. It will be the Promoter’s sole decision as to whether any eligibility requirement has or has not been met and the Promoter may require evidence or confirmation from entrants before awarding Prizes.

11. Entries submitted after the closing date of the Competition Period are automatically disqualified. 

12. Entrants may submit up to 1 (one) valid entry. Any additional entries will not be counted or eligible to win. 

13. The Competition will require access to: a mobile; an email account; a computer; and internet access – these will not be provided by the Promoter. 

14. The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any entry which does not comply with these Terms and Conditions or if an entrant’s conduct is contrary to the spirt or intention of the Competition, throughout the Competition Period. 

HOW TO ENTER

15. To submit a valid entry to this Competition, an eligible individual must during the Competition Period: 

(a) visit https://www.landrover.com.au/defender-world/purpose/defender-trophy/index.html and follow the prompts to the Competition entry form (“Entry Form”);

(b) follow the prompts to complete the Entry Form, which requires:

(i) entrant’s first name, last name, email address and phone number;

(ii) overview of entrant’s first aid qualifications and charity work, if any;

(iii) entrant’s answers to the “Adventure Challenge Questions” set out in the Entry Form; and

(iv) a 2,000 word-personal statement explaining why the entrant believes they would be a great participant for the Global Final; and

(c) submit the fully completed entry form during the Competition Period. 

16. Only entries that have been answered in full, completed correctly and submitted during the Competition Period will be considered as a valid entry. The Promoter does not take any responsibility for incomplete entries or entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit (regardless of cause) and any such entries will not be considered valid. The Promoter will not accept proof of posting or transmission as proof of receipt of entry to the Competition. 

17. Only entries that have been answered in full, completed correctly and submitted will be considered as a valid entry.

16. If, for any reason, a technical interruption, equipment failure, telephone failure, network, server, computer hardware or software failure or site failure or postal failure occurs and the Competition is not capable of running as planned or entries are not received or validly submitted or the Prize (as defined below) is disrupted, the Promoter reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition if necessary.

FIRST ROUND OF THE COMPETITION

17. A select group of eligible entrants will be chosen from all valid entries by an expert judging panel consisting of subject matter experts from the event, marketing and adventure industry (the “Local Competitors”). 

18. This Competition is a game of skill. Chance plays no part in determining any winners and/or the Local Competitors. Each entry will be individually judged based on creative merit of the personal statement in the Entry Form and how well the entrant aligns with the Promoter’s brand and values.

19. The judging will take place at Glenworth Valley Wilderness Adventure, NSW on 1 May 2026. The judging panel may select additional reserve entries which they determine to be the next best, and record them in order, in case of an invalid entry or ineligible entrant. 

20. The best twenty-four (24) Local Competitors as determined by the judges, will each win the opportunity to participate in the Local Selection Event (defined below) in order to win the prize of a spot in the Global Final. The Local Competitors determined by the judging panel will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. 

21. The Local Competitors will be contacted via email and telephone using the contact details included in their Entry Form from 1 May 2026 and asked to confirm: that they accept the invitation to compete in the Local Selection Event; that they meet the eligibility requirements set out in these Terms and Conditions; and that they are available to compete in the Global Final (defined below). Should any Local Competitor be unable to confirm any of the details above within 5 (five) days, the Promoter reserves the right to revoke their space in the Local Selection Event and offer it to an alternative entrant in their absolute discretion. 

22. Participation as a Local Competitor is not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash. 

23. It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that the contact details provided in their Entry Form are accurate.

LOCAL SELECTION EVENT

24 .The selected Local Competitors will be required to participate in the Local Selection Event from 12 June 2026 to 14 June 2026 at Glenworth Valley Wilderness Adventures, NSW where they will participate in a number of adventure challenges, including but not limited to: (a) Driving Vehicles Off Road; (b) Initiative & Communication; (c) Navigating & Wayfinding; and (d) Physical & Agility challenges (“Local Selection Event”).

25. The first, most successful Local Competitor will be chosen as the finalist by an expert judging panel at the Local Selection Event (“Finalist”) and will win the prize (as detailed below). The Finalist shall be chosen based on the Local Competitor’s successful completion of each of the challenges and how well the Local Competitor aligns with the Promoter’s brand and values. The judging is at the sole discretion of the expert judging panel and such decisions shall be final.

26. The Promoter will not be responsible for any expenses associated with Local Competitors’ participation in the Local Selection Event (including but not limited to travel to and from the Local Selection Event) and the Promoter shall not be responsible for the arrangement of such. 

THE GLOBAL FINAL

27. The prize consists of the opportunity for the Finalist to compete in the global final of the Competition against other finalists from around the world in October / November 2026 in a secret international location that shall be revealed by the Promoter in August 2026 (the “Global Final”).

28. The Promoter may place the Finalist into a team to compete in the Global Final. However, the Finalist will be judged on an individual basis and not as a team. Team formation shall be at the sole discretion of the Promoter. The Promoter may re-arrange team members at any point during the Global Final.

29. The total prize pool is valued at up to $50,000.

30. There are no alternative prizes, and the Prize is non-transferable and non-negotiable. The Prize may not be claimed by a third party on any Finalist’s behalf.

31. If the Promoter subsequently discovers a Finalist is ineligible or has breached these Terms and Conditions, or foul play or unethical conduct is suspected under these Terms and Conditions then the Promoter reserves the right to not award the prize to such Finalist and another Finalist may be selected by the judging panel. 

32. If the prize offered is unavailable, cancelled or suspended due to circumstances beyond the control of the Promoter, the Promoter will not be able to offer an alternative and will not owe any further liability to the Finalist. The Finalistwill not be entitled to any monetary equivalent or compensation for costs or expenses incurred or suffered in connection with taking up the prize.

33. Finalistaccepts that the prize could be cancelled or suspended for any reason whatsoever beyond the control of the Promoter. 

34. In the event that the Finalist is unable to take up the Prize for any reason they must notify the Promoter immediately. In this circumstance, the Promoter reserves the right to offer the prize 6 to a reserve Finalist. The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if a Finalist is not able to take up the prize, including if the Finalist is unable to attend the Global Final for any reason.

35. The Finalist acknowledges and agrees that the Promoter will not be responsible for any costs and/or expenses (including but not limited to taxes) of taking up the prize.

36. In all circumstances, the Promoter's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

37. The Finalist may be eliminated from the Global Final, at the sole discretion of the expert judging panel, at any point. The Finalist, if eliminated, will no longer be eligible to compete in the Global Final nor eligible to win the Competition.

38. The Promoter shall make all necessary accommodation travel, special clothing, technical equipment and dietary/meal arrangements to enable the Finalist to attend the Global Final and shall bear the cost of such (subject to the Promoter’s travel and expense policy).

39. Pursuant to the above, Finalist is responsible for arranging all other items and expenses, including but not limited to: their own visa, passport, vaccinations, travel insurance, spending money and any associated costs and expenses. Finalist acknowledges and agrees that the Promoter will not be responsible for any costs and/or expenses (outside of those set out in clause 30) of attending the Global Final.

40. The Finalist shall not, while participating in this competition, including the Global Final, display or publicize any political slogans or homophobic language, images of a lewd or explicitly sexual nature, images containing logos of competitors and overt brand sponsorship or anything else deemed to be ambush marketing or an abuse of the Promoter and/or Jaguar Land Rover Limited, content which is defamatory, obscene, illegal, vulgar, offensive or otherwise unsuitable or infringes others’ rights (including intellectual property rights) or reflects negatively upon the Promoter and/or Jaguar Land Rover Limited. Each entrant agrees and acknowledges that any breach of this clause will cause significant damage and loss to the Promoter and Jaguar Land Rover Limited.

WINNER

41. 1 winner will be selected from all remaining Finalists by an expert judging panel at the end of the Global Final (“Winner”). 

42. Winner will be selected on an individual basis and not as a team based. For the avoidance of doubt, there may be a Winner selected from a team where some team members will not be selected as a Winner.

43. The Winner determined by the expert judging panel will be final and at the sole discretion of the judging panel.

44. The Winner will be determined and announced at the Global Final and awarded in person. The Winner may also be announced via Jaguar Land Rover Limited’s ‘Defender’ channel on YouTube at the sole discretion of Jaguar Land over Limited. 

RECORDING AND PUBLICITY

45. As a condition of entry to the Competition, all entrants will be required to participate in promotional photography and filming by the Promoter during and after their participation in the Competition and Prize and therefore will be required to sign a film footage waiver form which will be provided by the Promoter to all entrants/Local Competitors on or before the Local Selection Event. By signing the form, all entrants/Local Competitors agree that the Promoter shall have the right to use all the resulting publicity materials in any medium and any manner the Promoter sees fit.

46. All entrants will be required to document their experience of the Competition process from the point they are notified that they have been selected as a Local Competitor until they are eliminated from the Competition or, should they be determined a Winner, until the end of the Prize. Entrants should document their experience of the Competition process through photographs and video recordings, for use by the Promoter to promote and showcase the Competition, in any and all media, throughout the world, in perpetuity (“User Generated Content”);

47. Pursuant to the above, entrants and Winners agree that the Promoter and Jaguar Land Rover Limited will have, and hereby grants to the Promoter and Jaguar Land Rover Limited the right to retain a worldwide exclusive irrevocable licence to the User Generated Content to use, and authorise the use of, in any and all media, including but not limited to on the Promoter’s, Jaguar Land Rover Limited’s and Jaguar Land Rover Limited’s franchised retailers’, NSC’s and importer’s websites, social media channels, third party websites (or parts thereof) that are under Jaguar Land Rover Limited or its agencies’ control (including but not limited to Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube), social networks and portals, and at the Promoter’s, Jaguar Land Rover Limited’s or its franchised retailers’ owned events or events held in collaboration with approved partners of the Promoter) and press releases in perpetuity.

LIABILITIES

48. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits, excludes or modifies or purports to limit, exclude or modify any applicable statutory consumer guarantees as provided under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), as well as any other implied warranties under any applicable consumer protection laws in the States and Territories of Australia (“Non-Excludable Guarantees”). Except for any liability that cannot by law be excluded, including the NonExcludable Guarantees, the Promoter (including its respective officers, employees and agents) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity), whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of this Competition and/or the Prize. 

49. Except for any liability that cannot by law be excluded, including the Non-Excludable Guarantees, the Promoter and Jaguar Land Rover Limited (including their respective officers, employees and agents) is not responsible for and excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of: (a) any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under the Promoter’s control); (b) any theft, unauthorised access or third party interference; (c) any entry or prize claim that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether or not after their receipt by the Promoter) due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter; (d) any variation in prize value to that stated in these Terms and Conditions; (e) any tax liability incurred by a winner or entrant; or (f) use of the Prize.

50. The Promoter may change these Terms and Conditions or cancel the Competition at their absolute discretion and without incurring liability as a result unless the Prize has been awarded. 

USE OF PERSONAL DATA

51. By entering this Competition, you (whether as the entrant, Local Competitor and/or Winner) understand that the Promoter (and its agents, contractors and group members on its behalf) may process, store, distribute and/or use the information (including personal data) you provide in your Entry Form and in the process of entering:

(a) to enable them to administer your entry in the Competition, including deciding whether it accords with these Terms and Conditions;

(b) to notify you if you are a Local Competitor, Finalist and/or Winner. Where you are a Local Competitor, Finalist and/or Winner you agree that the Promoter may announce or make available on request your name, country/town, image and User Generated Content; 

(c) to share with organisations assisting with the conduct of the Competition and fulfilment of the Prize; and

(d) to invite you to participate in future competitions hosted by the Promoter and/or events related to this Competition.

52. Entrants’/Local Competitors/Winner’s name and contact information used for the purpose of this Competition shall be retained for a period of [12] months from the Closing Date.

53. Data will be handled in accordance with (i) any data protection legislation from time to time in force in the [UK including the Data Protection Act 2018 or any successor legislation; and (ii) for so long as and to the extent that the law of the EU has legal effect in the UK, the General Data Protection Regulation ((EU) 2016/679), and any other directly applicable EU regulation relating to privacy].
